On November 15th 2017, the “Enhancing Teacher Education Program” (ETEP) in collaboration with National Academy of Educational Management (NAEM) organized an international conference on “Developing competency for Vietnamese educational managers in the context of industrial revolution 4.0”
The workshop attracted more than 10 international delegations from New Zealand, USA, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia … together with 90 articles of scientists, teachers, educational managers from educational management agencies and educational institutions, both national and international. These are the articles that are scientifically drawn from the research works, from the training experience of faculty members involved in teaching as well as from leadership management experience in educational institutions.
At the workshop, the participants focused on the following topics: The concept of developing the capacity of education managers to deal with the current trend of the 4.0 industrial revolution; Mechanisms, guidelines and policies of leaders from all levels in training and fostering the capacity of managers of educational management agencies and educational establishments in order to strive for educational renovation now associated with the trend of the industrial revolution 4.0; development of tertiary education institutions to train educational managers to support the development of professional competency for management staff following the trend of the industrial revolution 4.0.
With the aim of enhancing cooperation in research and training between educational institutions on a national basis in the region and in the world, the workshop has created a forum for educational researchers, policy makers, education managers, etc., to share theoretical and practical experience as well as research findings on policies, mechanisms, forms, methods and environmental conditions in training and fostering to develop the professional competency of educational managers in Viet Nam and in the world.
Speaking at the conference, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Trung – Director of NAEM pointed out that: the impact of Industrial Revolution 4.0 has placed new opportunities as well as challenges on educational managers, including the working environment in society and in technology-based and digitally-based institutions with artificial intelligence; changing workforces diversifying the structures of training fields in the colleges and universities; and changing methods of management in the educational institutions.
This requires the awareness and mindset of management staff as well as leaders improved; at the same time, it is necessary to change the their awareness of management responsibilities and the development of their competencies in order to meet new networking requirements based on knowledge and technology.
According to Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Trung, the number of managers, lecturers, teachers and staff working in the field of education and training of Vietnam is very large, over 1.2 million people. Therefore, the role of educational managers is particularly important because they act as driving forces, which determine the direction and speed of the whole education system. Therefore, developing the competency of Vietnamese education managers to be sufficiently qualified enough to meet the basic and comprehensive requirements of education and training is a big problem for Vietnam.
The workshop on “Developing the competency of Vietnamese education managers in the context of the 4.0 industrial revolution” is not only a recommendation for educational managers in the context of education reform but also the discovery of a new issue for further research in order to enhance educational management capacity of the education management staff for the digital revolution of the 4.0 technology industry. More importantly, the effect is popular and widespread across the entire education system, education and training institutions and to individual leaders, education managers to be ready for a period of comprehensive reform and renovation.
